Turkey would seek to avoid Kurdish independence attempt

Does Turkey want to regain the character of the Ottoman Empire? It is not the first time that Turkey has launched attacks in the semi-autonomous Kurdish region of northern Iraq, targeting the Kurdish separatist group. For decades, the Turkish state has been at war with the PKK, designated a terrorist organization not only by Turkey, but also by the European Union and the United States. In October last year, Turkey invaded neighboring northern Syria, chasing a related Kurdish group called the YPG, and the U.S. abandoned its Kurdish allies there. But Turkey says it is only trying to protect its borders.
