Egan Bernal hits his first hit of the season in Europe

(CNN Spanish) - In his first participation in a team event of the cycling season after the stoppage due to the pandemic, the Colombian Egan Bernal won the Ruta de Occitania.

There were only four stages that this test counted to test the legs of the cyclists facing what can be rescued from the calendar in this 2020 interrupted by the pandemic.

Bernal hardly needed to finish in fourth place in the final stage to stay for the first time with this event that has toured southern France since 1977.

Two other Colombians have imposed themselves in the 43 years of this test; Álvaro Mejía in 1994 and Nairo Quintana twice in 2012 and 2016.

The focus is now on the Tour de France and the difficult decision of the Ineos team to whom to give the nickname of leader by having three champions of the French round in their ranks; Bernal (2019), Chris Froome (2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017) and Geraint Thomas (2018).
The Tour postponed by the pandemic will run from August 29 to September 20.
