A thick cloud of orange smoke rose above Beirut on Tuesday, after two strong explosions rocked the Lebanese capital. The blasts, which took place in the port area, were heard in several areas of the city. Their origin is not immediately known.
The windows of many buildings and stores were shattered. Local media broadcast images of people trapped under rubble, some covered in blood. Dozens of people were injured, said a security source.

According to preliminary information from local media, the explosion was the result of an incident at the port of Beirut. The circumstances and details of the explosion remained unknown immediately.
"The buildings are shaking"
"The buildings are shaking," tweeted one city resident, saying "all the windows in (his) apartment have exploded."
