Criticism could be expected. But the tone and the arguments draw attention. Elisa Carrió accused the "government of Cristina and Alberto Fernández" of incurring the "crime of infamous traitors to the homeland" for prohibiting family gatherings across the country. The leader of the Civic Coalition signed a statement on Wednesday with the block's deputies and the party's National Board. . Thus, she joins the controversy with a decision that has already generated the rejection of some governors, such as the radical Corrientes Gustavo Valdés.

In the last extension of the coronavirus quarantine, which has been in force since this week, the main novelty was precisely the official ban on all meetings. As the President insisted in the presentation, these social contacts with friends or relatives became the main focus of contagion . And so he decided to move forward with a drastic measure, which affects many districts outside the AMBA. In the city and the suburbs, which account for nearly 90% of daily cases at present, meetings were never allowed.

This is the full statement by Carrió and his deputies:

"The government of Cristina and Alberto Fernández tries to put people's lives and privacy at the mercy of their government . With the issuance of DNU No. 641/20 they would be incurring in the crime of infamous traitors to the homeland , provided for in Article 29 of the Argentine Constitution- The prohibition of family gatherings throughout the Argentine territory, without any distinction between provinces, the AMBA or other localities, implies an inadmissible abuse of power that violates individual rights and freedoms provided for in Articles 18 ( inviolability of the home) and 19th (individual liberty and private actions) of the Constitution. It is a measure that exceeds the limit of what is reasonable, and is contrary to the rule of law and the search for a just social order. "

"It is a perverse act that hides a purpose : that there be no public expressions and / or public demonstrations before the subjugation of Justice, the search for impunity, the closure of businesses and SMEs, the increase in poverty and the increase in insecurity, mainly in the Province of Buenos Aires ".

"In addition, the DNU is unconstitutional and of absolute nullity since it covers criminal matters, expressly prohibited by our Constitution. With this decree they are installing a de facto state of siege."

"The government intends to pose a false dichotomy between life and death , health and the economy, and instill fear and anguish in the population. We are convinced that this is not the way out."

"The current situation forces us to understand that we must learn to live with the virus , as other countries and cities in the world are doing; implement a serious and consistent plan of gradual exit that takes care of health, our economy and rights and freedoms. The exit of the pandemic is with collective and individual responsibility, not with an authoritarian and police state. "
