The elections to the French rugby federation will take place, as planned, on October 3. Following the request for conciliation with the CNOSF by Florian Grill, candidate for election and competitor of Bernard Laporte, the conciliator issued a final opinion on Thursday. Much to the chagrin of opponents of the incumbent president, who demanded a two-month postponement of the elections due in particular to a campaign disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic. "This period of confinement, which the Federation cannot deny that it is of an exceptional nature, undeniably obstructed the holding of public meetings and necessarily reduced the electoral audience of the candidates", affirmed the CNOSF on Wednesday.
Nothing imposes a postponement for the conciliator
“The statutes and internal regulations do not envisage situations requiring the suspension or extension of the pre-election campaign. Also, no statutory provision imposed a priori the neutralization of this pre-electoral period in these circumstances (...) Ultimately, it was up to the FFR Steering Committee to assess the advisability of postponing these elections without anything imposing it. a priori. Under these conditions, it does not appear to the conciliator that the applicants can invoke the irregularity or illegality of such a decision ”, explains the FFR in justification of the maintenance of the elections on October 3 motivated by the conciliator, specifying that '"With electronic and decentralized voting, the removal of proxies, and an electoral code written into its internal regulations, the FFR is at the forefront of the sports movement in terms of democratic functioning."
