The same Wednesday in which President Alberto Fernández criticized the lack of City facilities to attend to the elderly, the Security Minister Sabina Frederic received in his office his counterpart from Buenos Aires, also deputy head of government  Diego Santilli . The two authorities will launch together next week a joint table to address the growing wave of insecurity in the Buenos Aires metropolitan area (AMBA).

Frederic and Santilli had chatted over the weekend . The phone calls between the two officials were essential to appease the criticism launched by the Interior Minister Eduardo "Wado" by Pedro , replied Cabinet Chief Santiago Cafiero, and emphasized Vice President Cristina Kirchner on security at different protests in the City. The political foam dropped a few hours, until the President insisted with the PAMI interns in Buenos Aires in the Province.

Three of the most influential political cadres of the Fernández administration had criticized the absence of the Buenos Aires police in the anti-quarantine marches (in which there were riots) and their leading role during the demonstration to claim for Santiago Maldonado. The Interior Minister was more careful: he did not name the City authorities. The vice directly criticized the Buenos Aires government: that is, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta and Santilli.

The Deputy Chief of Government of the City then explained to Frederic that, in both cases, the police had acted and arrested protesters. In the march in which journalists were attacked, 3 people were arrested, while in the last Saturday they arrested 13. In both cases, as they explained in the City, the Justice released the detainees within a few hours.

This Tuesday they met again in the minister's office, on Gelly and Obes street. Security Secretary Eduardo Villalba was also part of the game . "It served to work on criminal investigation issues on existing crimes in the City, in which federal and Buenos Aires forces work," they explained near the national minister. Although they recognized the idea of launching a bilateral table with the City, they included the meeting in the framework of the meetings that Frederic began 10 days ago with the Buenosairean governor Axel Kicillof (in which Frederic returned to braid himself with  Sergio Berni ), on Tuesday with the santafesino Omar Perotti   and this Thursday with the chubutense Mariano Arcioni .

With the brand new Security table between the Nation and the City, the two jurisdictions seek to give volume to that message . The Government acknowledged receipt of social unrest with this problem, especially in the suburbs . And he changed the script and several interlocutors.

Minister Frederic amassed a lot of criticism after Monday in an interview with the American think tank Woodrow Wilson she emphasized the role of the media in the feeling of insecurity, which appears in all the polls. " There are not many thefts , the media make them visible," the minister said Monday.

On Tuesday, Cafiero - very close to Frederic - discarded the idea that the poor go out to steal because they are poor. The minister, meanwhile, showed up with the head of Deputies Sergio Massa , a "tough" in matters of Security, who had applied before December for the position of Frederic to Diego Gorgal ; quite a message. " We have the need for the Justice to accompany , because if the Police capture, but the Justice frees, the effort there is is a broken bag" That message is the one that both jurisdictions seek to banish. "It is a psychological thing, too. They go out to steal from pipe , because they believe that they will be released by the Covid. We have to stop them now, "said participants close friends.

In the City, the casualties caused by the spread of coronavirus in the local Police are worrying . The Buenosairean authorities want that the uniformed ones return to patrol the districts of the City. Many of them are dedicated to the tasks of quarantine control. Security cameras delay the lack of human resources.

Larreta will not necessarily require, like Berni in the Province, more federal forces in the City. There are currently Gendarmerie detachments in Villa 1-11-14 and prefects in Villa 21-24 . "We do want there to be good coordination, something that is not yet happening," they say. While highlighting the courage and guts of the national minister, they look with concern that the government has too quickly detached itself from some of the gendarmes stationed in the villages, who were implicated in easy trigger cases. "It is Justice that has to define its responsibility. The forces remain and the politicians pass , they have already learned it ”, repeats a Buenos Aires official. They point out that in the Province it was announced that more gendarmes would arrive and finally they did not appear.

"We are looking for more coordination spaces and with the City they work very well", they recognize in the environment of the minister.

Frederic's relationship with Berni - with a good relationship with Santilli - is even more difficult. "On the Covid issue, 4,500 detainees have been released without any control," Berni reiterated in a tour with foreign journalists in which he did not deprive himself of questioning the national executive again also in political matters. "The Government is a coalition where there is more progressivism than Peronism," he said in statements that reached El Mundo in Madrid.
