Florida reaches maximum death toll 3:06
(CNN) - A joint forecast released by the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) projects more than 181,000 deaths from coronavirus in the United States by August 29.
The new projections, released Thursday, forecast 181,031 deaths by August 29, with a possible range of 174,946 to 189,433 deaths.
"Statewide aggregate predictions predict that the number of new reported deaths per week may increase over the next four weeks in Hawaii and Puerto Rico and may decrease in Florida, Mississippi, New Mexico, the Northern Mariana Islands, Ohio, Texas , Vermont and the Virgin Islands, ”the CDC says on its forecasting website.

Unlike some individual models, the CDC's joint forecast only provides projections within a month. The previous joint forecast, released on July 31, projected approximately 173,000 coronavirus deaths by August 22.
At least 158,445 people have already died from covid-19 in the United States, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.

In March 2020 a model cited by the White House projected that by August some 82,000 people could die of coronavirus.
"Our estimate of 81,000 deaths in the United States over the next 4 months is an alarming number," the researchers wrote in late March, "but this number could be substantially higher if excess demand for health system resources is not addressed. and if social distancing policies are not vigorously implemented and applied in all states.
