The Ivorian head of state Alassane Ouattara announced Thursday in a televised speech on the public channel RTI that he will be a candidate in the presidential election in October, therefore running for a third term.

"I am a candidate for the presidential election on October 31," declared Alassane Ouattara, who was speaking on the eve of the 60th anniversary of the independence of Côte d'Ivoire.
