"The termination of pregnancy is considered on the grounds that the continuation of the pregnancy seriously endangers the health of the woman, this danger being able to result from a psychosocial distress". Thus was amended article 20 of the bioethics law, voted in second reading in the National Assembly, on the night of July 31 and August 1. The addition of the words " psychosocial distress " caused a strong reaction, especially among pro-life activists, opposed to the new law.

" A disaster which will push to the trivialization of IMG (medical termination of pregnancy) as has already been done years earlier for abortions ", protested Tugdual Derville, general delegate of Alliance Vita, contacted by Le Figaro .
A position to which Israel Nisand, president of the National College of Obstetrician Gynecologists of France (CNGOF), replied that this in no way changed what was already done by gynecologists and that he simply provided clarification on the conditions for resorting to an interruption
