It was done trying to achieve a balance point between the Peronist and radical leaders and with emphasis on the most recent. The de facto presidents had already been removed.

Alberto Ángel Fernández's administration reformed the hall of the presidential busts, which is located in the Casa Rosada. In that gallery of busts, a reordering of the location of the former Argentine presidents honored there was made: priority was given to the most recent democratic presidents in the central nave and a point of balance was sought between Peronism and radicalism (all presidents elected by the popular vote) and with emphasis on the most recent in time.

How was the Hall of Honor of the Presidents at Casa Rosada

Entering through the esplanade of Rivadavia Avenue, you will find the busts of Juan Domingo Perón and Hipólito Yrigoyen in front. Looking to the left are Raúl Ricardo Alfonsín and Néstor Kirchner; behind them, Héctor Cámpora and Arturo Frondizi appear. And looking to the right, Marcelo Torcuato de Alvear and Arturo Humberto Illia appear.

When you go to the elevator, which allows you to go up to the Presidency, you pass between Pellegrini, Derqui, Saavedra, Rivadavia and Urquiza. Quintana, Juárez Celman and Luis and Roque Sáenz Peña appear in the area bordering the Patio de las Palmeras.

Thus, the "hall of honor of the presidents" (exact name of the place) now has a different order from the one left by the Mauricio Macri administration in December 2015. That provision, with Alfonsín with a preponderant place -and with Néstor Carlos Kirchner at his side- was a decision by Alberto Fernández himself.

This tradition of making busts of the presidents of the Nation began in 1883 by determination of the then head of state Julio Argentino Roca: the first three to be sculpted were Bernardino Rivadavia (first head of state of the United Provinces of the Río de la Plata exercising with the position of president), Santiago Derqui (second Argentine president) and the entrerriano Justo José de Urquiza.

What happened in that gallery was changing (for example, in the military regimes where the presence of the democratic leaders was scorned) it was reordered with decree 1872/06 where it was finally defined, among other resolutions, that a bust was makes a President when two expired mandates have been fulfilled since their administration. There, the current presidency decides to carry out (or not) the bust of a president.

Two years after that, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner presented with an act, in 2008, the bust of Raúl Ricardo Alfonsín, who attended the Casa Rosada and the first time that a president was honored in life with the inauguration of his bust .

Now, with the arrival of Alberto Fernández, the current Secretary General of the Presidency, Julio Vitobello, faced the rearrangement of that hall -which is where the President enters the Casa Rosada every day- prioritizing democratic presidents in the central nave , with a balance between Peronists and radicals And it was postulated to locate in that hall in a short or medium term (COVID by) adding the pending presidents, who are Carlos Saúl Menem, Eduardo Alberto Duhalde and Fernando de la Rúa.

Currently, there are 28 presidents in that place -accessed from the esplanade that overlooks Rivadavia Avenue or from the Patio de las Palmeras-.

The Secretary General of the Presidency analyzed the changes and commissioned this task of reorganizing the Bustos hall to Andrea Rabolini, who is now in charge of the Casa Rosada Museum and Cultural Programs, who reports to Gerardo Serrano, a historian who works as undersecretary Planning and Services.

These same people are the same people who have begun to recover the Hall of Women, that of Original Peoples and that of Scientists, which Macrism assigned for different actions between 2015 and 2019. What Macri did do was remove the busts Edelmiro Farrell, José Félix Uriburu and Pedro Pablo Ramírez , who came to the Presidency through military coups.

There is a law in force on how busts are made, in fine Carrara marble. This is how work is already being done on the busts of Carlos Menem and Eduardo Duhalde, the next ones that will have their place in the hall of honor of the Casa Rosada.

There are also plans to incorporate Presidents Fernando de la Rúa and Isabel Martínez de Perón, the first woman to be President of Argentina.
