(CNN Spanish) - Angela Salazar, a member of the Truth Commission of Colombia, has died at the age of 66. She was admitted to a hospital in Apartadó after suffering health complications from coronavirus.
"A faithful companion of thousands of victims, a permanent defender of equality and a tireless worker in the search for the truth, she leaves a huge void not only for the Commission but also for the country for which she has worked since her youth to see it in peace," wrote the agency in a statement published this Friday.
The Truth Commission is a State entity that seeks to clarify the patterns and causes of the armed conflict.
As of Thursday, the Ministry of Health registered 357,710 cases of coronavirus and 11,939 deaths.
