US President Donald Trump tonight (Friday) imposed a sweeping ban on US deals with Chinese corporation BateDance, the owner of the tic-tac-toe app, and communications company Tencent. The ban will take effect within 45 days during a move that increases tensions against Beijing. Following the order, the Chinese company’s share value fell four percent this morning.
According to the Reuters news agency, the administrative order came at a time when the Trump administration announced this week that it intends to purge unreliable Chinese apps from the digital network, describing the Wi-Chat and Tic-Tuck apps as "significant threats."
The order comes under a law that gives the government the power to ban U.S. companies or citizens from trading or contacting those subject to sanctions.
"Tic-Tac" is one of the most popular apps today, and has been criticized by U.S. lawmakers and the Trump administration over allegations of data collection from users.
