The British government commissioned Randox in March for £ 133 million, among other things, to provide tests for the coronavirus *. As the Guardian reported, the contract was awarded without a tender. It is worrying, however, that a senior MP for the ruling Conservatives, Owen Paterson , is advising the company. The UK Parliament's Extra Income Register shows that Paterson receives £ 100,000 annually for the job, which is around € 110,000.

Coronavirus: Great Britain has several breakdowns - not only in corona tests

The process joins a whole chain of mishaps and dubious deals when dealing with the coronavirus pandemic. It was only announced on Thursday that 50 million protective masks bought by the Ministry of Health in London were unsuitable for use by the National Health Service . Again, according to the non-governmental organization Good Law Project, there was no tender.

The deal is said to have been threaded by a government advisor who also works for the commissioned company. The Good Law Project estimates that between 156 and 177 million pounds (around 173 to 196 million euros) were spent on the masks. (lb with dpa)
