In China, to the outbreaks of coronavirus cases that alert the health authorities, an old disease was added that has again generated fear in the Asian country for several months.

In the Inner Mongolia region,  two villages had to be isolated after the death of two residents caused by the bubonic plague .

The first death was reported to the Baotou city authorities last Sunday. And as announced by the Health Commission of that city, on Thursday the diagnosis was definitively confirmed .

Thus, they established the isolation of Suji Xincun , the village where the victim lived. So far, the tests carried out on all the residents who reside were negative .

In total, there are nine people who were in close contact with the deceased person. They were all quarantined . According to the authorities, they also tested negative.

The other death from bubonic plague occurred in Bayannur . Consequently, visitor access was strictly prohibited and the government  closed the entire surrounding region , including entrances to five viewpoints in the neighboring grasslands.

It should be noted that in November 2019 there were also some cases of bubonic plague in Inner Mongolia, related to the raw - or undercooked - intake of marmots or wild rabbits , traditional foods in the area.

" Plague has been around for a long time and Inner Mongolia's response system to the disease, which includes field monitoring and rat killing systems, is sufficiently prepared to control it," said the deputy director of the School of Public Health. from Peking University, Wang Peiyu.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the incubation period for plague (the most lethal variant of which is pulmonary) is between three and seven days , and it has a mortality rate of 30%. The WHO counts that, between 2010 and 2015, 3,248 were infected, of which 584 ended up dead.

Bubonic plague is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Yersinia Pestis , which is normally found in small animals and in the fleas that act as parasites on them. It is transmitted from animal to human by the bite of infected fleas, by direct contact, by inhalation and, more rarely, by ingestion of infectious materials.

Depending on the route of infection, there are two types of plague : bubonic and pneumonic . The former is the most common form and is caused by the bite of an infected flea . The lymph node becomes swollen, causing a painful tissue tension, called a bubo.

In the absence of treatment, plague can cause death in a short time . Early diagnosis and immediate treatment are essential to overcome it or to reduce the complications of the disease. If the disease is identified early, the treatment of symptoms and the prescription of antibiotics are effective.
