A week of decisions is also expected in the police: Homeland Security Minister Amir Ohana is expected to announce his candidacy for the post of police commissioner this week. On July 15, Ohana announced that he will announce his candidacy within 30 days.

Those who see themselves as candidates from the police are the Jerusalem District Commander, Superintendent Doron Yadid, the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent Alon Asur, and the Deputy Commissioner for the past year and seven months, Superintendent Moti Cohen.  

In recent weeks, Ohana has met with incumbent, retired extras and members of the defense establishment, including the chairman of the Israel Electric Corporation, Maj. Gen. Yiftach Ron Tal.

Either way, if the candidate is out of the police force, the organization is likely to go through a shake-up as at least three extras are expected to retire. It should be emphasized that in conversations with candidates for the position and others, the Minister of Internal Security delved into the state of the police and the changes required to restore public confidence in it, against the background of allegations of selective enforcement.

One of the tasks that will be assigned to the chosen one will be to find the balance between using force and showing tolerance on the part of the police. In any case, the candidate for the position should also be accepted by the blue and white chairman, Bnei Gantz, against the background of the existing tensions. However, the political crisis and the threat of further elections could devour the cards on the appointments.
