The man who is preparing for the apocalypse is mowing his lawn in front of a brick house in a village near Schwerin. There is a sticker on the caravan in the driveway, "God bless our troops, especially our snipers". God protect our troops, especially our snipers. It is a Monday in August.

The man, olive-green pants, baseball cap in camouflage, doesn't want to talk at first. Then he turns off the mower, comes to the fence and talks about natural disasters, power cuts, emergency situations for which the Germans should prepare. With the end of nuclear and coal energy, the supply in the country is at risk, says Marko G., a big blackout is imminent. As a patriot, he would defend his homeland, regardless of the crisis, "even with the sacrifice of my life".

In the group "Nordkreuz", which G. founded about five years ago, his commitment did not always sound so honorable. In a chat, he sent one of his fellow soldiers a picture that shows soldiers aiming weapons at a person lying on the ground. "Asylum application rejected" was written below. On Adolf Hitler's birthday it was a photo of the dictator with the words "Happy Birthday". He described Foreign Minister Heiko Maas as "scum".
