A Venezuelan court sentenced two American soldiers to 20 years in prison after they were found guilty of participating in the landing of mercenaries on Venezuelan beaches last May as part of a plot to carry out terrorist attacks against the legitimate authorities of the country.

Saab added that the verdict was issued against them after they pleaded guilty to “conspiracy, forming a criminal gang, arms trade and terrorism,” explaining that the verdict was issued during a hearing during which photographs of vehicles, weapons and identity documents were presented.
Saab indicated that the case will continue to include dozens of other accused.
Last May, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro confirmed the involvement of the right-wing opposition leader, Juan Guaidó, in organizing the infiltration attempt by a group of mercenaries, including two Americans, into Venezuelan territory with the aim of destabilizing the country and carrying out a coup.
