China, Russia and Iran are among the countries seeking to influence the US presidential election in November this year, a senior U.S. intelligence official warned this morning (Saturday).

According to Avenina, China prefers that Trump not win the election. So does Iran, which undermines it and the democratic electoral institutions in the United States. He claims that the Islamic Republic is trying to sow separation in the country by disseminating false information and anti-American content. Russia, on the other hand, is aiming to defame Democratic candidate Joe Biden. The senior official also noted that Russian-affiliated parties are seeking to encourage Trump's candidacy.

The statement came from the person responsible for thwarting foreign espionage in the country, William Avenina. He said foreign countries are using overt and covert means to influence voting patterns in elections. "These countries have a preference for whoever wins the election," the senior official added.

Despite this, Avenina added that it will be difficult for these countries to intervene in the US election process or change the results on a significant scale.

In the past, U.S. intelligence chiefs have claimed that Russia intervened in the 2016 presidential election to help Donald Trump get elected. However, the Kremlin has denied the allegations.

At a press conference, US President Donald Trump was asked what he plans to do about reporting on election interference. Trump responded that the administration would closely monitor any attempt to intervene in the voting process.
