The finishing touches will have to be put on the extension of the Petershausen elementary school in the coming weeks, but everything should be ready by the start of the new school year on September 8th.

Petershausen - The floor coverings are still covered with protective fleece, in the cafeteria tables and brightly colored chairs are stacked in a corner, but all classrooms are fully furnished and boxes with toys and handicraft materials are already waiting for the children in the lunchtime supervision.

"We are on schedule," says Mayor Marcel Fath (FW) on a tour of the new wing, for which the community has invested 9.5 million euros. Right at the start, the town hall chief presented the auditorium, which was completely renovated and will in future function as a kind of joint between the old and new school wing. The former theater room was added to the hall, new parquet was laid, modern stage technology was installed, but above all the glass roof, which is difficult for the room climate, was replaced by a solid ceiling. The result is a modern multifunctional room that offers many options for events. “The room now has great acoustics,” enthuses Mayor Fath.

With a bright, unobtrusive restrained design, the auditorium also ensures an inviting atmosphere in the school building. From there, an adjoining new staircase leads to the extension, which extends over four floors along Münchner Strasse.

A building that became necessary because the schoolhouse is slowly bursting at the seams due to the increasing number of students. But also because an adequate environment should be created for all-day tuition. This concept is based on a rhythmic alternation of learning, practicing, moving and creative offers, and requires more rooms than just the usual classrooms. In the new wing there is now, on two identically designed floors, two classrooms as well as an open area, a so-called “mini market” with workplaces and cozy relaxation furniture. This area should be used as a meeting point, retreat zone and area for independent learning.

There are also team rooms where not only teachers can exchange ideas, but also educators from the special purpose association for youth work, who, as cooperation partners of the school, will organize additional offers in the full-day train. A large multifunctional room on each floor offers the necessary space for exercise and creative activities. Everything is already furnished with chairs, tables, shelves and cupboards, projection boards, projectors and document cameras are still being installed.

State-of-the-art digitization

Because when it comes to digitization, the new building is of course up to date, emphasizes the mayor. A pleasant working atmosphere is also ensured with acoustic ceilings, carefully planned shading and active ventilation.

The cafeteria is in the basement level with the street. There, all-day schoolchildren and lunchtime childcare children will enjoy warm meals that are freshly prepared every day from regional ingredients. Up to 280 meals can be served there, and kindergarten and crèche can also be catered for in the long term.

But not only the school will use the new building. Lunch care moves into the upper floor. There is a little extra there, thanks to the strict building regulations. In order to maintain the spacing, the top floor had to be built set back from the facade. As a result, Mayor Fath is now presenting a long roof terrace that offers a wonderful view of the village.

While the building is as good as ready for occupancy, there is still a construction site in the future playground. For a classroom in the open air, massive stone blocks are already arranged in a staircase. But the actual playing area, planned as a paved inclined plane in the rising terrain, will probably not be ready until spring.

To ensure that school starts in the building, the teaching team has to pack boxes beforehand. From autumn on, it will be important to fill the new rooms with life together with the school children.
