Evacuation of a protest tent in the Independence Garden
Jerusalem Municipality inspectors evacuated the protest tent in the Independence Park this morning (Sunday) for the second time in three days, and a fight broke out between the demonstrators and the inspectors. It will be recalled that only last Friday the demonstrators were evacuated from the encampment in the capital, after deviating from the accommodation area agreed upon between the parties.
The Jerusalem municipality told Israel Today that: "This is again the same point as on Friday. A suspect was arrested for disorderly conduct and possession of a knife. They are sleeping outside a compound set up to create provocation and ruined the lives of Jerusalem residents."
The protesters claim that: "The equipment is in a place where it is allowed to set up a protest tent, according to the municipal procedure. "People inside, led the demonstrators to try and prevent the vehicles of the inspectors from leaving and a riot broke out in the Agron Street area. At the end of the evacuation, one of the demonstrators was stopped and another evacuated by ambulance to Hadassah Hospital on Mount Scopus due to injury."
Police said during the evacuation, several people began trying to block Agron Street. Police officers on the scene evacuated them from the road, and the axis was opened to traffic.
