An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale hit North Carolina, USA, today, without any reports of human casualties or material damage.
The agency "AP" quoted the US Geological Survey as saying that the quake occurred early today after a less intense earthquake hours earlier, indicating that it was 2.5 kilometers southeast of Sparta, which led to the shaking of homes and buildings.
This tremor is the largest in North Carolina after the one that struck the state in 1916 with a force of 5.5 on the Richter scale near the town of Skyland.
