While the start of the new school year is imminent in many federal states, more than 1000 new corona infections were recorded in Germany for three days.
- The number of Corona * infections is increasing again more strongly in Germany
- Vacationers who return from Corona risk countries must be tested
- School will start again next week in four federal states
Berlin - Germany seemed to come off much more lightly in the Corona crisis in terms of the number of cases than other countries in Europe and worldwide. But for a few days now, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) has been assessing the situation here again as "worrying": three days in a row, more than 1000 new corona infections were registered every day, on August 6th, 7th and 8th.
That has now changed again. On August 9, the health authorities in Germany only reported 555 new corona infections within one day. The fact that the number of new infections is only about half as high as the values of the previous days could be due to the fact that not all health authorities transmit their data on weekends.
Corona containment in Germany: mandatory testing for vacationers in risk countries
Germany now has a total of 215,891 corona infections. 9196 people died here in connection with the corona virus, 196,800 people are considered to have recovered according to the RKI. The number of reproductions , or R-value for short, was, according to RKI estimates with data as of August 8th, midnight, in Germany at 1.32 (previous day: 1.16). This means that one infected person infects more than one other person on average.
Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) cites vacationers returning from risk countries as one of the reasons for the sharp increase. In order to contain this risk, returnees from risk countries have had to undergo a corona test * since Saturday (08.08.2020).
