Lebanese Prime Minister Hassan Diab and government ministers are considering announcing their resignations, thus overthrowing the government, local media reported today (Sunday).

The reason for this is probably the disaster in Beirut, the public pressure and the wave of protests that erupted yesterday in Beirut in which thousands called for the overthrow of the government, called Hezbollah secretary general Hassan Nasrallah a terrorist and even displayed cardboard figures of him and senior Lebanese officials on hanging poles.

Meanwhile, according to reports in the country over 490 people were injured in last night’s protests and one person, a member of Lebanon’s internal security apparatus was killed. Dozens of Lebanese security forces were also injured in the riots. Dozens of protesters were also reportedly arrested for questioning.

As you may recall, thousands of demonstrators gathered in the Shuhada Square in central Beirut, in protest of the Lebanese government's incompetence that led to the country's economic crisis and an explosion in the port of Beirut. During the demonstrations that lasted several hours, a policeman was killed.

The demonstrators are calling for condemnation of the government and Hezbollah. Radio "Voice of Beirut" posted a video on the social network Twitter in which hundreds of young people were seen reading "Hezbollah is a terrorist organization." According to state television reports in Lebanon, there are 110 wounded among the protesters and police. The Lebanese Red Cross said most of them were treated on the spot and did not need to be hospitalized.

The demonstrators tried to break into the parliament building near the center of the demonstrations and some of them managed to cross the checkpoints set by the police in preparation for the demonstrations. Police in riot gear stormed a rally on Friday, removing hundreds of protesters by truck. The protesters placed a long line of gallows in the square, which were said to be intended for "culprits in the disaster".
