Sunday, 09 August 2020, 22:19The Derech Eretz faction agreed tonight (Sunday) with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the Likud will support the promotion of the law to postpone the state budget, until the second and third readings. This step will allow the Likud and the blue and white time to reach a comprehensive resolution of all disputes between them, ensure the day-to-day functioning of the government and prevent elections. "The prime minister complied with our request and we welcome any progress towards resolving the crisis," the Derech Eretz faction said.
Netanyahu's consent to advance the law has so far been given only until it is approved in a preliminary reading, but not in three readings. Only if Hauser's law is brought forward for final approval can it postpone the budget crisis for another two months. Following Netanyahu's announcement, the Knesset committee is expected to convene tomorrow to approve the exemption from the obligation to discount the bill, as well as approval for the promotion of the law in an abbreviated procedure.
After that, the proposal will go to a vote on Wednesday in a preliminary reading, and its further promotion will depend on the consent of Netanyahu or whoever is from the opposition factions. Without the support of any of them, there will be no majority to advance the proposal until its final approval.
