Summer, sun, vacation: Bavaria is in vacation mode. Because of Corona, the majority of Germans spend the best time of the year in their own country this year. Do the hotels in the district feel that too? Our newspaper asked around.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen - Just a few months ago, the 39 rooms in the Eglinger Hotel Post were mostly empty. That has changed since last month. “The whole of July was pretty full,” reports boss Doreen Oberhauser. Some holiday guests have also announced that they will be coming in August, including many cyclists and motorcyclists. “This is new to us. Usually fewer vacationers book with us, ”says Oberhauser. During the week, mainly business people spend the night in the inn. “We wouldn't have thought that the rush would be so big in summer,” admits the hotel manager. "We are pleasantly surprised."

A good 16 kilometers further in Icking, the Hotel Klostermaier is also feeling the new holiday trend. "In the last few years the demand has always increased, but this summer it is really extreme", reports Katharina Schmidt, who runs the hotel together with mother Karin Schmidt. What the junior boss particularly notices: “We have a lot of spontaneous guests. They don't book their vacation months in advance, but a maximum of three weeks in advance. "

Schmidt suspects that the people who stay in Germany this year make their vacation plans dependent on the weather. However, one thing makes them sad: “We miss our business guests. We usually live on them during the week. ”Therefore, the guest occupancy has remained the same despite the numerous inquiries. "Only our target group has changed."

In the Tölzer Hotel Alpenhof, senior citizens in particular enjoy their vacation time. “We are fully booked from the end of June to mid-September,” reports hotelier Jürgen Ostermann. "Whether Berlin, Frankfurt, Kassel - our guests come from all over Germany." But he emphasizes: "This is nothing new for us."

In the summer months, the 27 rooms in his hotel are "actually always" fully booked. What changed in 2020: "This year there are a lot of guests who originally didn't want to come to Tölz." They had already booked their holiday accommodation abroad. "Because of Corona, the trips fell into the water," said Ostermann

Lydia Hofherr is accommodating significantly more holidaymakers from her own country this summer at the Posthotel in Königsdorf. “As a rule, we have significantly more foreigners who stop over with us on the way south,” reports the boss. "Germans tend to spend their vacation here on the farm or take a vacation home," says Hofherr. Not so this year. Whether for cycling, hiking or swimming: the local guests spend their holidays in Königsdorf in various ways. “It goes through the entire sports department once,” says Hofherr.

Those who would like to spend their holidays on the farm are at the right place at Ferienhof Sagschneider in Lenggries. Significantly more inquiries than last year registered boss Veronika Mittermair-Schambeck. “Unfortunately, we had to cancel some of them because there was nothing left,” she reports.

“We accommodate a wide variety of holidaymakers. Everything is included. ”At the beginning of summer, more and more guests from northern parts of Germany flocked to the holiday farm. Since the beginning of the Bavarian summer holidays, more and more holidaymakers have been arriving from the Free State.

Hotel Humplbräu in Wolfratshausen accommodates "significantly fewer vacationers"

The situation in Wolfratshauser Humplbräu is completely different. It is true that more and more tourists have traveled to Loisachstadt in recent years. "But because of Corona, things are looking different for us this year," reports junior boss Benedikt Fagner. He speaks of "significantly fewer vacationers" than usual.

It is true that the hotel occupancy has improved after the shutdown. “But you can clearly see that people are still very careful”. A few isolated tourists are currently staying in the Humplbräu. "However, the cyclists and hikers usually only stay with us for one or two nights, as a stopover," reports Fagner.

The Bavarian campsites are also packed - and motorhome rental companies are completely booked out: More and more holidaymakers are spending their holidays camping with the caravan this year.
