The Haifa District Court this morning (Monday) convicted Gary Rabinovich, an intelligence coordinator who served at the Haifa and Tirat Hacarmel stations, for providing police information to brothel directors, providing unlawful assistance in their police affairs, and turning a blind eye to the crimes they committed.

Rabinovich, a 51-year-old resident of Zichron Yaacov, met Barak Peggy in 2017 as part of his role as intelligence coordinator, who served as the director of brothels in Haifa where police raids were carried out. Rabinovich and Barak made contact, during which the two met weekly and talked on the phone, among other things, via an operational phone call. As part of their relationship, Barak told Rabinovich about the brothel business he managed, the profits he produces and the business activity of the brothels. Barak also updated him on the issue of bringing women to Israel for the purpose of employing them in prostitution.

Rabinovich was convicted of aiding Barak, including providing him with information about police activity, interfering in police activities in the brothels managed by Barak and turning a blind eye to the brothel business and the criminal offenses that Barak committed and reported to him.

The former intelligence coordinator was convicted of obstructing court proceedings, as in one of the police raids on the brothel under Barak's management, Rinovich falsely stated to the police force that raided the apartment that Barak did not operate a brothel, and even instructed Barak to give a false version during his interrogation. In addition, he made another bribe with another person who operated brothels in the Haifa area, and gave him, among other things, protection from police activity, in exchange for the money he gave to a police officer.

Advocate Shaked Dahan from the Police Investigations Department at the State Attorney's Office said: "The court accepted the position of the Police Investigations Department and today convicted an intelligence coordinator from the Haifa area by providing police assistance to brothel owners in Haifa in exchange for funds and benefits he received from them. The court ruled that this was a bribery relationship between a police officer in charge of crime prevention, who provided inside police information to the brothel owners, assisted them in their police affairs and even turned a blind eye to the commission of serious offenses by them. "

"It was further determined that the bribery connection is the only explanation for the close connection between a police officer, a law representative in the intelligence system, who meets in a friendly manner with criminals and active brothel managers and maintains a disguised, unreported relationship with the police, using codes, over time and frequency. DIP claimed that a police officer who refrains from reporting offenses for which he confesses, assists offenders and provides inside police information, terrorizes the work of the police and causes damage to public trust.
