This press release refers in particular to materials stored in " warehouses (...) at Cairo airport and other airports in the country ", without giving further details. " A committee will assess all the procedures that apply in the storage areas (...) in order to prevent all risks, " added the Minister of Civil Aviation, Mohamed Manar, quoted in the press release.

This decision comes after the deadly explosion at the port of Beirut on August 4, caused by 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate stored for six years without " precautionary measures ", according to Lebanese Prime Minister Hassan Diab.

The explosion, the most violent in Beirut, left at least 158 dead and 6,000 injured, according to a still provisional report. Entire districts of Beirut were devastated by the explosion, which caused a 43-meter crater, according to a security source.
