Lebanese Prime Minister Hassan Diab announced today the resignation of his government, a week after the explosion that occurred in the port of Beirut and the accompanying campaign targeting the government and lack of cooperation from some political forces that tried to hold it responsible for the explosion and the deteriorating economic situation that Lebanon reached.

Diab confirmed in a televised speech that the government had made all efforts during the last period “to lay down a road map and fought fiercely and honorably” for Lebanon because it wanted to work, but there are those who falsified and distorted the facts to hold them responsible, pointing out that the forces keen on the country had to cooperate to overcome the ordeal However, some of those who live in another time were not concerned with everything that happened except to score political points and demolish what remained of the state’s manifestations.

Diab pointed out that there are forces in Lebanon that are working to falsify facts and incite seditions according to their interests and whims and at the expense of the interests of the people, considering that the explosion of Beirut port is one of the examples of the system of corruption.

Diab added, "Today we have reached this earthquake that struck Lebanon with all its humanitarian, social, economic and national repercussions, and our first concern is to deal with these repercussions in parallel with a rapid investigation that identifies responsibilities and holds those responsible accountable, and the disaster does not fall into it with the passage of time."
