After the increased number of corona infections, the Greek government has ordered extensive restrictions for numerous holiday regions and cities. In addition, the traditional trade fair in Thessaloniki (September 5th to 13th) was canceled. Germany would have been the partner country of this fair this year.

After more than 200 proven corona cases were reported the day before, all taverns, bars and discos in numerous regions of the country, including Crete, Santorini, Mykonos and other well-known holiday regions, have to close daily at midnight at the latest. This measure will initially apply until August 23, said a government spokeswoman in Athens.

In addition, all people arriving by land have to present a negative corona test from August 17th, regardless of which country they come from. The test must not be older than 72 hours. The Foreign Office in Berlin updated its travel advice for Greece accordingly on Monday.

Measured against its population of a good 10.5 million people, Greece has a low number of infections with the coronavirus. In the past few days, however, the number of infected people has risen suddenly.
