Extraordinary incident: Large forces of police and the prison service were transferred this evening (Monday) to Hasharon Prison, after cyanide smuggled into prisoners was found in one of the cells. The Prisons Service immediately reported this to the police who opened an investigation.
At this point, it is still unclear how the poison was smuggled into the jail and what the purpose of its introduction was. A suspicion was examined that this was part of an assassination attempt resulting from a conflict between criminals.
Prison posts said: "At this stage we will not be able to comment on any of the details of the incident that was transmitted by the IPS Intelligence Division for further police treatment."
