At about 3:30 pm yesterday (11th), the Yuen Long Police District Criminal Division, Special Duty Squad, uniformed patrol squad and task force raided multiple units in the area and smashed 5 illegal sparrow stalls and 1 illegal fishing The machine file seized 39 sparrow platforms, 78 sparrows, 3 shooting game machines, 2 fishing game machines, 1 card reader, 8 game cards, 47,100 Hong Kong dollars and approximately 12,000 chips with a face value of approximately 12,000, and arrested 185 people.
Six men (30 to 57 years old) were arrested for "operating a gambling establishment", of which 1 was a foreign national; 70 men and 109 women (22 to 78 years old) were arrested for "gambling in a gambling establishment", 2 of them holding Two-way permit. All persons are being detained for investigation. One of the arrested 30-year-old gambling stall persons in charge and the rest of the arrested persons are involved in violation of the "Business Order" and the "Restriction Order". The police are considering making a ticket.
At about 4 pm yesterday, the Tsuen Wan Police District Crime Squad also smashed illegal mahjong gambling stalls at Units 2-12 of Sanpo Square, and seized 2 electric mahjong machines, 4 mahjong machines and about $2,100 in gambling money. The man in charge of Zhang (64 years old) was arrested on suspicion of "operating a gambling establishment"; the other 4 men and 1 woman (aged 50 to 76) were involved in "gambling in a gambling establishment"; all were suspected of violating the "Prevention and Control The Illness (Prohibition of Group Gathering) Ordinance (Cap. 599G) was voted against.
