  • Two police officers were called on Saturday for an operation in the northern district of Munich-Freimann .
  • When they check that everything is okay, a dangerous chemical reaction suddenly takes place.
  • An officer ends up in the clinic. The reason is a holdover from WWII: phosphorus .
  • An expert takes a position on the danger - and does not exactly help calm the residents.

Munich / Freimann - Dramatic end to an alleged routine deployment of two police officers in the north of Munich : the duo was made aware of smoke in a forest by passers-by on August 8, 2020 - then the two police officers found a phosphor bomb that was still from World War II originates! On Saturday afternoon, the emergency services drove to the forest on Leinthalerstraße (Freimann), one of whom had a fire extinguisher with him.

However, the many decades-old utensil could not prevent one of the two men from having to be hospitalized: Before he could use the fire extinguisher, the bomb's phosphorus reacted with the oxygen in the air and ignited. The young officer (21) suffered massive burns on his arms, legs and head. He had to be taken to a clinic immediately, but there is no danger to his life.

It was not the first time that a bomb was found in Freimann. World war ammunition of various origins was found there as early as 2017 - and people had to be evacuated. How dangerous and flammable phosphorus is can be seen in this video:

Why could the phosphorus bomb suddenly cause such damage? It is possible that the bomb was released from the underground during forest work. This extraordinary find does not have to remain an isolated case in Munich *, because it is not known how many of these self-igniting World War II bombs there are still in the city, explains Andreas Heil, Operations Officer for Ordnance Disposal. Unfortunately, the effects of the weather do not minimize the risk - on the contrary: the bombs "are becoming more dangerous every day," explains Heil.

Nearby, a man from Munich recently turned in the dark on the A9. The statement left the police speechless. In addition, there will soon be a new landmark in the north of Munich - a huge “entrance gate” near the Allianz Arena. (LMB / PF) * tz.de is an offer from the Ippen Digital Network
