Guinean President Alpha Condé announced on national television on Tuesday that the highly anticipated presidential election will take place on October 18.

President Condé passed a constitutional reform in March which, according to the opposition, was a subterfuge to enable him to run for the presidency for a third time. His political party nominated him as presidential candidate last week, but he has yet to say whether or not he will run.
