After an intense selection process, Biden and his running mate will virtually accept the nomination on the last day of the Democratic National Convention, Thursday, August 20.

Joe Biden, a former Democratic vice president and now a candidate to defeat the president, Donald Trump, announced on Tuesday that his running mate in the event of winning the elections will be Kamala Harris, senator and former presidential candidate.

The candidate, who will be nominated as Trump's official opponent at his party's National Convention next week after obtaining the necessary delegates in the primaries, promised to choose a woman as his potential vice president.

Biden announced it via the social network Twitter: "I have the great honor to announce that I have chosen Kamala Harris, an intrepid warrior who fights for the underprivileged and one of the best public servants in the country, as my running mate."

"I'm not looking for someone who will walk into the White House and bend the knee," but who is willing to "tell the truth if they think I'm wrong," Biden had said in January.

On the list of potential electives were some of her rivals during the primaries, like Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren.

Another, Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, declined to be considered by suggesting that Biden should pick a black woman for the job. Most of the applicants were, in fact, African American.

Following massive protests across the country against racism, there was increasing pressure for the Democratic running mate to be a black woman.

Harris has a vast career, first as a senator representing her state, a seat she has held since 2017. Before that she was a California federal prosecutor, and before that she was a San Francisco district judge. Because of this, she has extensive experience in litigation and attack strategies, which could be beneficial to Biden.

In 2019, he ran for president alongside several Democrats, including Biden, for which he is already a familiar face. In addition, his Jamaican and Indian heritage fits the profile that Democrats have suggested.

Right now Donald Trump "is not a hero," Sen. Kamala Harris said.

After dropping out of the White House race in December 2019, Harris endorsed Biden. However, some of the harsh criticism he delivered during primary debates made the former vice president's campaign question how loyal he would be and whether his own presidential ambitions could be a hindrance. Because of this, some of the top advisers and donors to Biden's campaign had made efforts to have Harris scrapped.

President Donald Trump's re-election campaign said in a press statement: "Not long ago, Kamala Harris called Joe Biden a racist and asked him for an apology that he never received. Clearly, Phony Kamala will abandon his own morals, as well as will try to bury her record as a prosecutor, to appease the anti-police extremists who control the Democratic Party. In her failed bid to run for president, Kamala Harris happily welcomed the radical leftist manifesto, asking for billions of dollars in new taxes and backing the Bernie Sanders government takeover of healthcare She is proof that Joe Biden is an empty shell filled with the extreme agenda of left-wing radicals.

His vision:

Impeachment Trump:  Voted to impeach the president for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

Abortion:  She said that if she was president she would stop "dangerous state laws that restrict reproductive rights."

Immigration:  Supports DACA and under his old plan as a presidential hopeful, advocates for extending the program. His plan included a parole system   that would allow Dreamers married to citizens to apply for permanent residency and eventually citizenship.

Firearms:  His campaign for the presidency said that if he held that position he would order "the most comprehensive federal background checks in history", revoke the licenses of gun manufacturers who break the law, make it difficult for abusers to buy weapons domestic, and would ban the importation of AR-15-style assault weapons.
