"Short circuits", easy distribution: French cannabis production booming

2020-08-12T17:06:58.351Z

Boosted by the proliferation of online shopping sites for seeds and other cuttings, self-cultivation is gaining more and more followers.

Anxious to know everything about the product he consumes and to no longer contribute to enriching drug addicts, the joint smoker is more and more seduced by short circuits. De facto, it falls back on domestic production. As reported by the French Observatory for Drugs and Drug Addiction (OFDT), using the 2017 Health Barometer of Public Health France, around 7% of cannabis users have resorted to self-cultivation. That is to say between 150,000 and 200,000 people, mainly men aged 35 to 44.

The estimated number of these illegal cultivators may even be much higher today. Boosted by the proliferation of online shopping sites for seeds and other cuttings, in connection with stores located in the Netherlands, it is also benefiting from the popularity of “growshops”, these “indoor” horticultural stores that offer the perfect panoply of the small gardener in apartment. All while of course avoiding using the term “cannabis” so as not to arouse attention.
