Coronavirus: 2,524 new cases in 24 hours, "clear deterioration" of the situation in recent days

The coronavirus is still raging in France, where 17 people have died from it in the last 24 hours, bringing to 30,354 the total number of victims since the start of the epidemic, the Directorate General of Health (DGS) announced on Wednesday August 12 in its daily press release.

2,524 new cases have been detected in the past 24 hours - a record number since April 28 - and more than 11,633 have been detected in a week. 143 new hospital admissions were recorded, for a total of 4,891 patients currently hospitalized. Among them, 17 new serious patients were admitted to intensive care, bringing the number of patients in these units to 379. The “ Île-de-France, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, Hauts-de-France and Guyana regions group together 69% of patients in intensive care, ”specifies the DGS.

318 active “clusters”

318 “ clusters ”, or sources of contagion, are still active in the territory, including 18 new ones that have been detected in the last 24 hours. Between August 3 and 9, 606,487 tests were carried out in the territory, with a positivity rate of 2.2%. Since the start of the epidemic, 108,616 people have been hospitalized and 83,472 have returned home.

In order to reduce the risk of infections, the DGS recommends wearing a mask, even outdoors if the distance of 1 meter is not respected, and to avoid too large friendly and family gatherings. " Focus on small groups, equip yourself with masks for the general public and hydroalcoholic gels, prefer outdoor spaces, ventilate the premises, activate StopCovid, protect the most fragile ", she explains.

Globally, the 20.3 million mark since the appearance of the virus has been crossed, for a total of at least 743,599 deaths.
