(CNN Spanish) - Guatemala began diplomatic negotiations with Russia to include the country on the priority list to access the coronavirus vaccine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported on Tuesday.

The announcement comes on the heels of news from Russia's President Vladimir Putin that his country has registered what could be the world's first coronavirus vaccine.
In addition, this Tuesday through his Twitter account, Alejandro Giammattei, president of Guatemala, indicated that “the fight against the coronavirus requires all human and scientific efforts, so today, through diplomatic channels, it has been requested to the United Kingdom and the Federative Republic of Brazil, to have access to the vaccines that they develop.

This Tuesday the Russian authorities reported that there are more than 20 countries that have expressed interest in acquiring the vaccine developed by the Gamaleya Institute. Among them there are two from Latin America: Mexico and Brazil.
