Starnberg - Many are amazed at what is currently being built on Weilheimer Straße shortly before Neusöcking: Several hall-like buildings on a large, asphalted area. It is the first part of a storage area for the construction of the B 2 tunnel, part of which is already being used for the test field currently running on Münchner Strasse for a jet grouting process. The area is extensively secured - to protect the groundwater.

This first section of the warehouse, also known as the technical area, is around 10,000 square meters, around 8,000 are asphalted and provided with self-contained drainage, explains Raphael Zuber, the department head responsible at the Weilheim State Building Authority. "Closed" means: All liquids, whether rain or water from the excavated material stored there, are collected and do not get into the ground. This is definitely a sensitive area there, as Barbara Beck from the district administration explains: “The Siebenquellenbach begins in the immediate vicinity and, as the name suggests, arises from the groundwater. The Siebenquellenbach feeds the following fish ponds. ”The district administration has imposed strict requirements on the building authority.

District office makes strict requirements

According to Zuber, five covered boxes, each ten by 20 meters in size, are currently being built there, plus three uncovered ones. And that's no joke: They consist of around 1000 Lego bricks. This is what concrete elements are called that work like the Lego bricks from a child's room, but are considerably larger.

The area and boxes are designed for excavation - excavation from construction pits for emergency exits or culverts, from street surfaces or from the tube itself, if the drill later digs through under Starnberg. “With the area, it is possible to safely store excavated material of all load levels,” explains Zuber. Every bucket of excavated material has to be stored and examined before a decision is made on how to dispose of it or reuse it - that's why the area is so large. Although you do not expect highly contaminated excavation, explains Zuber, you can never be absolutely certain. Barbara Beck added that contaminated soils were found in preliminary soil investigations. Incidentally, the storage area costs 1.3 million euros.

And it will get even bigger. In the current plan change procedure, an expansion by several times is planned. The areas are only necessary, explains Zuber, when the drilling machine is in use and large amounts of excavation are produced as a result - and this has to be stored and examined. How this area has to be built up and expanded has to be clarified with the district office. An estimated 400,000 cubic meters of overburden is produced when drilling. Incidentally, that's enough to fill the Starnberg industrial park east of Gautinger Strasse two and a half meters high. The operations building for the tunnel will later be built directly north of the warehouse (in the direction of the Edeka-Center / Aldi).

The city's statement on the plan amendment procedure is on Monday, August 17, topic in the holiday committee (6 p.m., Schlossberghalle).
