Hama-sana
The Hama Agriculture Directorate estimated the production of about 22,338 tons of apples during the current season.
The head of the Department of Planning and International Cooperation in the Directorate of Agriculture, Engineer Muwafaq Al-Najjar, said in a statement to the SANA Economic Bulletin that the areas planted with apple trees amounted to 27285 dunums, of which 3034 dunums were irrigated, with an estimated production of 3112 tons, while the rain-fed area amounted to 24,251 dunums, while the total number of apple trees was estimated at 19226 tons. In the province, there are 878831 trees, of which 769,048 are fruitful trees.
Al-Najjar pointed out that apple cultivation is concentrated in the western regions of the governorate, such as Masyaf, Bashnin, Barshin, Tin Al-Sabil, Harmal, Bishawi, Briza, Al-Tamarqia, Al-Qusia and Al-Marah, and it constitutes a source of income for a large number of the people of those regions, indicating that the most important cultivated varieties are of the Starken, Golden and Double Red types, which are distinguished by a distinctive color and hardness that makes Its texture is firm and gives it long-term storage capacity.
