Berlin (dpa) - The polls of the SPD have increased slightly after the nomination of their candidate for Chancellor Olaf Scholz. If there were general elections on Sunday, 18 percent (+2) of voters would vote for the Social Democrats.

This was the result of a representative survey by the INSA opinion research institute on behalf of "Bild". With the other parties, there are therefore only minor fluctuations. The Union loses half a percentage point and lands at 36 percent. The Greens are at 15 percent (-1). The Left (9 percent) and the FDP (7 percent) each gain half a percentage point. The AfD remains unchanged at 11 percent.

In a direct comparison with the other parties' possible candidates for chancellor, Scholz does better than his party. If Friedrich Merz stood for the Union, 13.7 percent of the voters would vote for him in a direct duel and 20.6 percent for Scholz; Robert Habeck from the Greens received 13.5 percent of the vote. Scholz would also be ahead against CDU Health Minister Jens Spahn (21.9 to 12.3; Habeck 13.7), as well as against NRW Prime Minister Armin Laschet (22 to 8.9; Habeck 13.1). Scholz would therefore lose 18.2 percent against Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) - 26.4 percent would decide for Söder (Habeck 13).
