The reserves will be opened free of charge to underprivileged populations: "Nature belongs to everyone"
Entrance fees and public transport accessibility make it difficult for welfare populations to reach nature reserves and national parks. A project to strengthen and promote community and environmental protection of the Ministry of Strengthening and Community Promotion in collaboration with RTG will provide them with organized transportation and tours, and will provide families with respite from the crisis

Wednesday, 12 August 2020, 08:14 Updated: 08:28Welfare populations will be able to take shuttles for organized tours of nature reserves and national parks, free of charge, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Promotion, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Nature and Parks Authority announced. "Nature belongs to everyone, and everyone is entitled to enjoy it, even those whose hand is out of reach. Our job is to remove the barriers, and make nature accessible to them," said Minister of Community Advancement Orly Levy Abacis.
The entrance fee to the sites is tens of shekels per person, except for various discounts for students, soldiers, senior citizens and groups. Also, many of the sites are not accessible by public transport. It has now been decided to organize free organized tours, under the name "Community Project in the Reserve". At this point, any interested local network will be allowed one visit until the end of the year.

The Ministry of Community Strengthening and Advancement explained that they instructed their representatives to organize the visits together with the employees of the authorities, and tours of residents of Kiryat Malachi and the Sdot Negev Council are currently being planned. "The initiative is important because it connects the long-standing reality of populations that have difficulty enjoying nature reserves and national parks in the country due to their economic situation, and the current reality that further sharpens families' need for respite and refreshment - and there is no better place to do so than in nature," Levy Abkasis explained.

We must ensure that all sections of the population can enjoy the national parks and nature reserves of the Nature and Parks Authority. I welcome the initiative that will open the door to other similar activities in the future."
The Director General of the Nature and Parks Authority, Shaul Goldstein, added that "out of an understanding of the plight of the welfare populations in Israel, we embarked on a joint project this year, in which we will host nature reserves and national parks at no cost to local authorities with low socio-economic status. This project is doubly important during a period of socio-economic crisis created during this period. "
