Neither the Book Fair, nor the Rural Fair. The coronavirus pandemic and quarantine restrictions could turn one of the closed pavilions of the Palermo property of the Argentine Rural Society (SRA) into a drive- in movie theater with capacity for 120 cars per function.
The information was leaked through the specialized publication “Fairs and Congresses”. There, managers of La Rural SA, in charge of the exploitation of the property, announced the project. The 8,000 square meter green pavilion would be used and the venture would be carried out in partnership with FilmSuez and the Atlas cinema chain.
Similar initiatives are already operating at fairgrounds in Germany and South Korea.
For the project to be carried out, it must first receive authorization from the City Government, which should include it in some phase of the opening that every 15 days raises in meetings with the national and provincial governments.
However, Carlos Solanet, commercial manager of La Rural SA, gave more details in "Fairs and Congresses": "Being indoor, our drive-in theater would not have climatic conditions. In addition, due to the projection technology that we would use, the image will have the same quality than a traditional movie theater . "
In the Conurbano, on weekends there is already a drive-in theater in San Isidro, in an open-air property next to the river with space for 80 cars. And this Thursday the modality will arrive at Escobar with the Autocine Municipal Italia, with capacity for 72 vehicles, within the Maschwitz Mall premises.
In the City, the Ministry of Culture has been promoting a summer drive-in movie at the Rosedal for several years. It was like a revival of the 60s and 70s when four came to work in Buenos Aires simultaneously: the one in La Ribera, in the Ciudad Deportiva de la Boca; the Panamericano, in Panamericana and Pelliza, and the Buenos Aires, in General Paz and Constituents. The room was on the terrace of the Todo supermarket, in Empedrado and Artigas, Villa del Parque.
