New turn arrows at the Weißbräu intersection in Erding have caused confusion. The anger was great. Now the city has reversed the change.
Erding - Loud horns, fading in, near-accidents: This is what drivers have been reporting since the city changed the turning rules at the Weißbräu intersection. This condition lasted a good 14 days, everything has been back to normal since yesterday afternoon.
What happened? Because accidents occur regularly at the intersection of Anton-Bruckner-Straße and Sigwolfstraße, especially when turning left, the city intervened. Initially, the traffic lights were changed so that oncoming traffic is red when turning left on Sigwolfstraße. It will stay that way.
In addition, the arrows in the lanes were changed in such a way that - coming from Eitting - not only turning left but also driving straight ahead was permitted in the left lane. The right lane was only reserved for right-turns. Many drivers did not understand this. Driving instructor Christoph Flittner was amazed at the change and describes it as completely atypical: “You won't find that anywhere else.” When two cars are waiting there at the traffic lights, the arrows on the lane are hidden. Especially if a truck has moved into the right lane that actually wants to drive straight ahead, it could be dangerous for the man next to you. This is what happened during a driving lesson with a motorcyclist who was just able to evade, says Flittner.
He was one of the callers to the town hall to raise awareness of the problem. The city administration initially wanted to set up so-called advance signs in order to point out the changed situation at an early stage. You no longer need it. The change was withdrawn on Tuesday afternoon. Now drive straight out in the right lane or turn right. The left lane is reserved for left-turners.
