The Medical Council of Hong Kong held a disciplinary hearing this morning (12th). Western medicine doctor Li Puzhen involved improper prescription drugs, which caused the patient to have an allergic reaction. The Medical Council ruled that he was professionally improper and sentenced him to a one-month suspension of his license for one year. The defense lawyer pleaded that Dr. Li was deeply sorry for the patient's suffering due to his mistakes and would increase preventive measures in the future to avoid making mistakes.

The female patient visited Dr. Li Puzhen’s clinic in December 2015. The female patient’s husband said that his wife was sensitive to "penicillin" (also translated as penicillin), but when Li Puzhen knew or should have known her medical history, The antibiotic "Augmentin" containing "penicillin" was wrongly prescribed. The female patient later developed allergic symptoms and developed a rash on her body. She finally went to Tuen Mun Hospital for medical treatment. The patient’s husband sent a complaint to the Medical Council about the incident.

The prosecution stated that Dr. Li Puzhen, as a registered doctor, did not perform professional responsibilities to the patient and described his behavior as professional misconduct. The defense lawyer pleaded that Dr. Li was deeply sorry for the patient's suffering due to his mistakes, and had already introspected and was prepared to take responsibility for the mistakes. It is continued that the defendant has more than 20 years of practice experience and hopes to continue to serve the community and that preventive measures will be added in the future to avoid mistakes.

Liu Yunyi, chairman of the Medical Council, ruled that he believed that the accused doctor had little chance of repeating the crime after the incident. Taking into account his introspection, he finally sentenced Li Puzhen to be removed from the general practitioner list for one month and suspended for one year.
