Yuen Long District issued 63 subpoenas for three consecutive days against illegal bicycles

According to the police, in view of the recent upward trend in traffic accidents involving bicycles, the police carried out bicycle safety enforcement operations at various black spots in Yuen Long District from August 9 to 11 for three consecutive days. The action is mainly aimed at prosecuting those who do not comply with traffic lights or traffic signs regulations, bicycle riders, reckless or careless cyclists, and pedestrian cyclists. A total of 63 subpoenas and 200 promotional leaflets were issued during the operation. The police stated that they attach great importance to road safety and will continue to take related enforcement actions. Police urge all cyclists to abide by the traffic regulations, especially when cycling at night, a white light must be lit at the front and a red light at the rear. The police also reminded not to ride a bicycle on a pavement, drive backwards, or use a mobile phone while riding a bicycle. Otherwise, it may violate the Road Traffic Ordinance, Chapter 374 of the Laws of Hong Kong and other related laws.
