A detainee, equipped with a "homemade weapon", from the Aix-Luynes penitentiary center, near Aix-en-Provence, took hostage Thursday August 13 "for less than an hour" a nurse released without be injured, according to sources concurring to AFP.
"The hostage-taking started around 9:00 am and the nurse was released at 9:45 am after the detainee, equipped with a homemade weapon, negotiated with the head of the establishment," the management told AFP of the prison administration (DAP).
The nurse who was released without being injured, was retained "at the level of the health unit", indicated the DAP and the National Prison Union Force Ouvrière on Facebook.
The detainee, having "psychological problems", according to a source familiar with the case, was arrested and placed in police custody. A regional intervention and security team (ERIS) went to the site but did not intervene physically.
The Luynes penitentiary center has 1,366 inmates for 1,327 places according to the prison administration.
