(CNN Spanish) - Germany's Leipzig gave the first hit of the Champions League quarterfinals by eliminating Diego Simeone's Atlético de Madrid.

The German team prevailed 2-1 in a clash that they dominated in large part thanks to the idea of the game from their coach, Julian Nagelsmann.

Zero to zero seemed immovable after a first half with few emotions. However, with barely five minutes of the complement, Leipzig arrived with several players in attack and Spanish Dani Olmo scored the 1-0 with a head after a good team play.

Diego Simeone immediately sent to the field his figure in the attack, João Félix, who had not entered the eleventh start of Atleti. The Portuguese did not fail the «Cholo»: at minute 70 of the game he entered the area of the German team and Lukas Klostermann committed a penalty. João Félix himself was in charge of changing the maximum penalty per goal to put Atlético back into the game.

However, with two minutes remaining in regulation time, American Tyler Adams appeared with a shot from outside the area that ended in Jan Oblak's net.

Leipzig thus qualify for the Champions League semi-finals for the first time in its history. This, despite having lost their top scorer, Timo Werner, who left for Chelsea in the last transfer window. The German side will look for a ticket to the final against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.
