Belarusian authorities have freed more than 1,000 people arrested during the fiercely repressed protests against the re-election of President Alexander Lukashenko, the Senate Speaker announced Thursday evening.

“ More than 1,000 people have been released with the obligation not to participate in unauthorized demonstrations ,” Natalia Kotchanova said on state television. For his part, the Minister of the Interior, Yuri Karaev, apologized for the police violence committed against " passers-by " not involved in the protest actions.
