  • A 29-year-old from Munich was infected with the corona virus in March.
  • Back then, nobody could have imagined how badly Covid-19 would hit him.

Munich - Do elderly people and high-risk patients suffer from severe Covid-19 ? The story of a 29-year-old man from Munich shows that the coronavirus * can also cause serious damage to young people . He has been dependent on a rollator since his infection .

The 29-year-old Roberto R. from Munich * was a sporty man who neither smoked nor had previous illnesses, reports the Süddeutsche Zeitung. Before the coronavirus infection , the husband and father of two daughters were in the middle of life. He worked as a manager in an Italian restaurant in Ingolstadt .

In the end, in the restaurant , he probably also contracted the virus . Many of his guests were on a skiing holiday in Austria in March , he told the Süddeutsche Zeitung ( article behind the payment barrier ). "Oh God, I hope we don't have a Corona *, because I have a cold," was a joke in the restaurant.

He had to go to the clinic in mid-March : first he had a high fever, then he had difficulty breathing . He was treated in the Schwabing Hospital , one of the houses of the Munich Clinic . According to the Süddeutsche Zeitung, he cannot remember the time he spent there from March 26th to May 4th. Due to the ban on visits , his wife was initially not allowed to come to the clinic.

Munich: Robert R. loses weight and muscles due to coronavirus infection - after kidney damage on dialysis

Due to the Covid 19 disease *, Roberto R.'s previously muscular body changed significantly. In the hospital, he swelled up extremely due to water - then he lost 13 kilos and became very thin. Not only did his muscles deteriorate, Roberto R.'s organs were also severely damaged . Due to kidney damage , he was the youngest patient at the Munich Clinic to have dialysis . The doctors cannot answer why the coronavirus * hit him so hard . In January he had an operation after a hernia. “Perhaps the immune system was not yet fit, and that's why the virus was so much fun,” he told the Süddeutsche Zeitung.

Roberto R's road to recovery is a long one: In rehab, the thin man in the wheelchair first had to learn to walk again. According to Clemens Wendtner, chief physician of infectious diseases at the Schwabing hospital, the fact that he can walk with a rollator today is a “great success”. Lifting weights or driving a car - things that the Munich native used to enjoy doing - he can't yet again. His legs are too weak to press the brake pedal while driving, for example. Other everyday things, like eating with a knife and fork, are also difficult for him. According to the Süddeutsche Zeitung, however, chief physician Wendtner is convinced that his 29-year-old patient can get fit again. But his nerves and muscles still need time to recover .
