(CNN Spanish) - Strong, with a heart of 1,000 colors and with pride of her roots, is how the singer Paty Cantú defines herself as Mexican, characteristics that go very hand in hand with the single that she currently promotes and that bears the same name : "The Mexican".

Zona Pop CNN spoke with her in a video call in which Cantú opened her heart "mexa" (a common word to define a Mexican) and expressed the pride she feels in being Mexican and what she is looking for with this subject full of female empowerment. Paty defines herself as "the daughter of music and my mother."

"La Mexicana" is a mixture of various musical genres ranging from urban pop from the streets of Mexico, combined with electronic beat, cumbia, trap with ranchero melody, and phrases from songs belonging to Mexican popular culture, which give as result, a proposal of its own genre: «This is a song in my life and a project that exalts, vindicates and shows what I think differentiates Mexico as a land and as people with our cultural, ideological, religious, colorful diversity, long-suffering, magical, but always tireless and eager to get ahead. There are several phrases or winks to Mexican composers as at the beginning with "Cielito Lindo" and phrases like "They say that distance is oblivion" from the song "La Barca", followed by "Bésame Mucho" and other funny ones like "Pasito Tun Tun "Which shows all the fun of the mexa (Mexican)", assures Paty Cantú.

In this theme, Paty makes a duet with the rapper from Monclova, Coahuila, Patricia Polet González Osaria, better known as Hispana (or Mamba Negra), who gives her urban touch to the song: «La Hispana is the maximum rapper in Mexico and I told my team that "La Mexicana" should give the Mexican a job. The music scene in our country has gone a lot to the background in recent years, we have become spectators of what happens in other places and I said that "La Mexicana" has to be consistent from beginning to end, I spoke with Hispanic and I told her that she was the greatest exponent of rap in Mexico, you speak with a very different pen, you tell the story of great women from another place and you are very (mop) and you have what I need for this song to take strength he must have and fell in love with the song ", says Cantú, who in 2009 won the Language of the MTV Latin America Awards as Best New North Artist.

What does it mean to be Mexican for Paty Cantú?

Paty Cantú
For me, being Mexican is living with constant awareness of the pride of my roots and hope. What was and what will come from the heart of a person. We Mexicans cannot avoid looking at each other, sometimes we do, but when it comes to life's blows, we look at each other and recognize each other. It means a capacity for empathy and feeling with a heart of a thousand colors and unlimited possibilities. I do not know how to explain it beyond feeling very strong, I do not stop feeling my pain and that of others as part of my strength at all times. Our history is present at all times. That is why "La mexicana" was translated into all this.

Paty Cantú never tires of surprising her followers and is always experimenting with various genres that will be reflected in her next production, as she says: "When You Come Back", "Take me with you" and "We Do Nothing" are part of "La Mexicana", which will go on sale on September 15, is intended not to be limited.

Feel this sensation of free music, of different fusions of all the songs, if you strip them, you can play them like the band genre.

There are collaborations with singers of various genres. There are songs with very raw and direct lyrics such as depression or the struggle of the LGBTQ community, there are stories inspired by the empathy generated by this pandemic.

How much did you "get in" in the direction of this video? How did you choose the female icons to appear in the production? What did she tell us about her great aunt, the renowned Mexican actress María Félix, known as "La Doña"? How have you created empathy with yourself in this time of confinement? These and other questions are answered by Paty Cantú in a new episode of Zona Pop CNN.
